Labor cost by job is usually a reconstruction.
Coded from memory
"Where were you Tuesday?" asked Friday. The hours get split however it sounds right.
Everything under "General"
When coding is extra work, crews skip it. The report says 100% general labor.
Overtime nobody can place
Eleven hours of OT across three jobs. Which job pays for it? Nobody knows.
Bids built on bad history
Next estimate uses last job's labor numbers — which were never right to begin with.
The code travels with the punch.
Assign cost codes as you onboard each employee.
When an employee is added — or created from a signed offer — you set the cost codes they work under: General Labor, Framing, Rough-in, Service, whatever your list looks like. From then on their punches are coded from day one without anyone remembering to do it.
- Your own code list and names
- Default codes per employee, set once
- Codes available per job or project
Every punch coded to the right job automatically.
Crews clock in and the punch carries the job and cost code — their default, or a quick switch if they move from framing to cleanup mid-day. Location context on the punch confirms the site. Nobody fills in a timesheet at the end of the week.
- One-tap code switch during the day
- Punch verified at the job site
- Uncoded punches flagged by payroll guardrails
Clean labor reports by job and cost code.
See hours — regular and overtime — by job, by cost code, by employee, for any period. Compare labor across projects, spot the job eating overtime, and give your estimator real history for the next bid.
- Hours by job × code × employee × period
- Overtime attributed to the job where it happened
- Export to CSV for your accounting or job-costing system
One export feeds payroll and the job-cost ledger.
Approved hours export by employee for payroll and by job and cost code for your accounting or project system. PunchPro produces accurate labor hours; your accounting software turns them into job cost. Works alongside QuickBooks job costing and the construction platforms you already use.
- Payroll review with guardrails before export
- Hours by job and code for QuickBooks and others
- Not an estimating or project-management tool — by design

Cost codes, answered plainly.
What is a cost code?
A label for a type of work — framing, rough-in, general labor, service — used to break labor hours down within a job. PunchPro attaches a cost code to every punch so hours roll up by job and by type of work without a separate timesheet.
Do employees have to pick a code every time they clock in?
No. Each employee has default codes set at onboarding, so most punches are coded automatically. They can switch codes mid-day with one tap when the work changes.
Can I use my own cost-code list?
Yes. Create as many codes as you need with your own names and numbering, and choose which are available on each job.
Does PunchPro do job costing?
PunchPro produces accurate labor hours by job and cost code, including overtime, and exports them. Turning hours into job cost — with materials, equipment and subs — happens in your accounting or project system, such as QuickBooks job costing.
What happens to a punch with no code?
A payroll guardrail flags uncoded punches for review, or blocks the timecard until a code is set — your choice.
Can I see overtime by job?
Yes. Overtime is attributed to the job and code where the hours were worked, so you know which project is driving it.
Does it work with QuickBooks?
Approved hours export by employee for payroll and by job and cost code for job costing, in formats you import into QuickBooks. ADP, Paychex and Paycom exports are also available, plus CSV.
What does it cost?
Cost codes are included in the single PunchPro plan: $39.99 per month per business plus $7 per active user per month. 14-day free trial, no credit card required.
